Melanie Kroening showed faculty two sites that provide copyright-friendly photographs for use on the web:
Flickr http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
Pics 4 Learning http://www.pics4learning.com
These web sites explain the conditions for you to legally use the resources posted. Many want you give credit to the author/photographer.
Using Podcasts
Jeff Anderson demonstrated the wealth of podcasts available at ITunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/
Podcasts can deliver audio and video files in MP3 format (which is very compressed and thus downloads easily). If you create a podcast, you can upload it to the ITunes site for easy accessibility. Students can view it on their Ipods or on their computer.
MCLI also has a selection of podcasts for your use. You can see them at this URL: http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/podcast/
To create audio files, you might want to use Audacity - free software that is very user friendly. Directions for downloading Audacity and using it can be found at http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/other/ctl/_ctl_SD/resources/helpdocs/how_to/audacity.swf
Jeff plans to create a hand-out with more details on podcasting. It will be sent to the faculty and staff who attended this WebCT Users Group meeting.
