Social Bookmarking

Shelley Rodrigo shared a wealth of information about Social Bookmarking. The information she provided in a hand-out is shown below. If you only want to try one tool, Shelley recommends starting with Delicious (see below).

Social bookmarking allows individuals to share their bookmarks (including annotations) with one another and also allows the user to access resources from any connection to the web. The "social" element also allows users to make "those who bookmarked this site also bookmarked" connections.

Tools:

· Furl ( http://www.furl.net/ )—allows for more detailed annotations, archives/caches

· Del.icio.us ( http://del.icio.us/ )

· Diigo ( http://www.diigo.com/ )—built in social element that makes sharing easier.

· Fleck ( http://www.fleck.com/ )—allows users to annotate specific webpages at the webpage.

· Stumble Upon ( http://www.stumbleupon.com/ )—includes ranking system

· Digg ( http://www.digg.com/ )—allows for more detailed annotation, includes ranking system

· Delicious Firefox Addon ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en -US/firefox/addon/3615 )

Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching

Greg Pratt shared his experience as a student in online courses delivered by the University of Wisconsin at Stout. Consisting of a five-course sequence, the program leads to a Certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching. Greg highlighted the best practice elements of the individual course design and pointed to program level attributes designed to retain students and increase success.

Greg intends to earn a graduate certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching, and along the way, improve the classes he instructs online. For those who are interested in enrolling in this certificate program, it provides another opportunity for ongoing professional development.
