Café is an Adjunct Faculty Development program sponsored by the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Coordinated by the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Adjunct faculty can accumulate Café credits during fall and spring semesters in which they are teaching a class for Mesa Community College. Accumulation for credit hours is extended into the summer months of May and August.
Courses available for Café credit should be indicated on the CTL calendar and/or registration form. Check with the course facilitator if you have questions.
The goal of the Café program is to provide professional development opportunities for adjunct faculty which will further integrate them into the college community and academic culture at Mesa Community College. In addition, this stipend-based program will encourage adjunct faculty to contribute to the academic life of the college. Café is not a district-wide program, thus only adjunct faculty who teach courses at Mesa Community College and are not board approved employees are eligible.
The Café program is based upon the accumulation of Café credits. These credits, a maximum of 12 per academic year, may be earned based on hours of attendance at Café approved workshops/seminars or through completion of a curriculum development project as follows:
Note that one credit will be awarded for each workshop/seminar hour unless otherwise indicated. Sample Café approved workshops/seminars include:
Adjunct faculty may earn Café credits by participating in a FPLC. They must attend the majority of the FPLC meetings each semester. Adjuncts may request 6 café credits per semester. They must submit the Adjunct Faculty Café Credit Tracking Form, listing the meeting dates and times. They also must have the FPLC facilitator send an email to the CTL verifying their participation in the FPLC for the entire semester.
Café credits will accumulate during the fall and spring terms of the same academic year, and payment will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Funding is limited and priority will be given to first-time Café participants until funding for the year is exhausted. For those who have received funding in prior years, credits will be tallied, but awards will not be guaranteed. Note: Café credit is not accumulated for classes that are cancelled by the CTL.
The CTL Office Coordinator will keep a record of each faculty member’s paid credits. Participants may earn up to just shy of $300 per academic year (a maximum of 11.75 credits). The amount is subject to change based on funding availability. Payment for accumulated credits will be made after the conclusion of each regular semester.
The last day to submit Fall 2007 accumulated credits is Friday, December 7, 2007, 5:00 pm and Spring 2008 credits is Thursday, May 29, 2008, 5:00 pm. Attendance will be verified via the CTL and/or District online registration systems as well as pre-approved events (by both the CTL Director and the Vice President of Academic Affairs). Early submission of credits is encouraged. Forms submitted after the deadlines above will not be considered for credit. Credit cannot be carried over from fall to spring or from one academic year to another.
