Distance Learning Mentoring Group
Minutes for January 22, 2009 AS192 4:30 P.M.- 6:10 P.M.
In attendance at the DLMG meeting: Mona Scott, Joe DePinto, Corki
Stewart, Megan Garvey, Glenna Bayer, Marie Hatch, JoRita DeFrancesco,
and Peggy Johnson.
INTRODUCTIONS - DLMG faculty introduced themselves to one another, including
- description of prior experience teaching and/or taking classes online
- listing workshops/classes completed that relate to online teaching
- describing online course that will be developed
- anticipated pedagogical approach
Hand-outs provided -
- identifying the most common mistakes faculty make in developing online courses
- article describing ways in which online classes can meet or beat face-to-face classes
- expectations of faculty during DLMG semester as well as expectations of DLMG mentor rol
Faculty were directed to log on to http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu
and select Designing an Online Course
from the Quick Links on screen. As they work their way through
it, they will complete 2 worksheets linked to this site. The worksheets
apply to one learning module of their online course, identifying
components that work well and components that could use revision in
approach.
Faculty were asked to copy their work to share at next week's DLMG
meeting. Additionally, they are to identify two resources they found to
be useful while completing this assignment.
A schedule of DLMG activities for the semester will be distributed at next week's meeting.
