MODULE REVIEW - DLMG faculty shared their module worksheets, as directed at this website http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu/_resources/onlineCourseDesign/online_course_design.html

Suggestions were exchanged on potential software and pedagogical approaches to directions faculty want to go in their online course.

The WebCT Announcements tool was explained. More information on this tool can be found at http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu/_resources/webct/index.html Scroll down to find the heading LMS (WebCT) Communications workshop description on the right side of the screen.

The WebCT Discussions tool allows you have discussions with the class as a whole or you can divide them into groups, or even pairs. More information on the Discussions tool can be found at at http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu/_resources/webct/index.html Scroll down to find the heading LMS (WebCT) Communications workshop description on the right side of the screen.

Megan emails her online students a week before the semester starts. She logs on to My Maricopa and finds each student's name. Often their personal email account is listed there. She gets better responses than when she uses the student's MCC email accounts, as they may not be logging into it.

Megan posts her powerpoint presentations online as Flashpapers. Then her students don't need to have a powerpoint reader to view powerpoint. Flashpaper is an add on to Powerpoint 2007.

Megan utilizes an online scavenger hunt to help her students get familiar with the course.

Marie is interested in having students label various body organs. It was suggested she might utilize the Drag and Drop feature of StudyMate. More information on StudyMate software, for which the district has a license, can be found at http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu/wiki/index.php/Category:Help_Resources Locate the letter "U" on the screen that appears and select the title Using Online Games (StudyMate).

Glenna recommended http://www.wisconline.org/ as a source of health-related reusable learning objects. You do have to pay for them, but some looked really good. They site might give you ideas on resources you would want to create. Glenna also recommends Merlot at http://www.merlot.com
and Teacher Tube (http://www.teachertube.com)

Several faculty were interested in creating timelines for their online class. Peggy will research what tools are available.

Assignment: Faculty were asked to complete a Module Overview worksheet and Module Details worksheet for a second module in their online course and bring it to next week's DLMG meeting. The files for these two worksheets are attached to this document or may be accessed from http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu/_resources/onlineCourseDesign/online_course_design.html. The worksheets will be given to Peggy, rather than sharing with the entire DLMG group.
