Minutes for December 8, 2005 - 4 P.M. - 5: 3 0 P.M. AS192
In attendance at the DLMG meeting: Shereen Lerner, David Schultz, and Peggy Johnson.
Shereen and Dave both showed their online courses to Peggy and received some feedback.
Two key items you will want to do:
1. Make a backup of your WebCT course and save it to your home and/or office computer. To make a backup of your course, follow the directions at this link: http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/other/ctl/_ctl_SD/resources/helpdocs/how_to/documents/webct_create_backup.pdf
2. When you are ready to make your course visible to your students, request a live WebCT course be created using your development course as the template. Directions can be found at this URL: http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/other/ctl/_ctl_SD/resources/helpdocs/how_to/documents/webct_create_live_000.pdf
About a week or so before the semester starts, IT automatically populates your course with the students who have enrolled in it. This means that your students names will show up in your gradebook at this time (provided they have an MCC email account). When the student logs on to the MCC homepage and enters their MCC username and password, your online course will appear in their list of classes, along with a link that takes them into your course.
You may want to let students know that there is a second way to access your course (in case the MCC server is down for some reason). They can log in to the WebCT server and get in that way (http://webct.mc.maricopa.edu).
NOTE: You can find lots of good step-by-step documents to help you with WebCT tasks on the CTL homepage at http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/other/ctl/_ctl_SD/resources/helpdocs/how_to/index2.html
Click on the arrow to the left of the various titles on this link to see your options.
It has been a pleasure working with both of you this semester. Melanie, Donna and I will be around the CTL through Dec. 16 if you have any questions. Melanie and Donna will return the first week in January. I'll be back the week of accountability. We are also available by email if you need us. Have a well-deserved, relaxing holiday!
