HOMEPAGE

Faculty who do not have an MCC homepage should create one. You can check if you have an MCC homepage by going to this URL and looking for your name: http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/other/directories/

The easiest way to obtain a homepage is to request an MCC automated homepage. Directions for this procedure were passed out. They can also be found at the CTL website. (http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu/_ctl_SD/resources/helpdocs/how_to/index.html) Click on the heading WebPages heading to view the list of documents, including how to Create an Automated Homepage. The page will automatically be updated each semester to show your department and schedule of classes. Directions for customizing this homepage can also be found at this site.

You can add up to 5 links to this automated homepage. One link should be a description of the online class you develop for your students. Students interested in your online class can get information on it without being enrolled in it (they can't get into your WebCT course until they are enrolled in it).

HOMEDIRS

Each MCC faculty member has 30 megabytes of space on a server called homedirs. You may upload any of your acadmic files to this space. It's a good site for back up of your files (in addition to your office or home computer).

When you create your description of your online class, you will upload the file to the homedirs server. Then make a link to this file from your homepage (the MCC automated homepage will work for this purpose if you don't have another homepage).

To drag and drop files from your computer to the homedirs server from home or work, you can use Filezilla software (if you're on a PC). Filezilla is free to MCC faculty. Directions for downloading and using Filezilla can be found on the Technology Support Services (Helpdesk) website at http://wiki.mc.maricopa.edu/tsswiki/index.php/Portal:Software

Peggy conducted a workshop on SoftChalk. SoftChalk is used to create interactive, professional looking web pages, which are ideal for online lessons.

The district has a site license for SoftChalk. Faculty can download it to their office and/or home computer by going to the CTL homepage (http://ctl.mc.maricopa.edu/) and selecting Downloads from the Quick Links section (left side of screen). Follow the on-screen directions there.

 COMING ATTRACTIONS

The next two weeks we will be learning the basics of WebCT. Lessons/activities created in SoftChalk can be uploaded into WebCT or onto the homedirs server for delivery to students who are not enrolled in a WebCT class.
