Donna conducted a workshop on using Respondus to create quizzes that will be delivered online in WebCT. Directions for how to download Respondus software (the district has a license for it) were given in an earlier email message.

Donna showed how to create a file of quizzes and publish it to WebCT. Settings can be input into either Respondus or WebCT as to the point value for each question, when the quiz will be available, how long the quiz will be available, etc.

You can only use Respondus to create quizzes if you are on a PC. There is no version of Respondus yet for creating quizzes on a Macintosh. However, once the quizzes are uploaded into WebCT, students can take the quiz with either a PC or a Macintosh.

Faculty also entered the course as a student to see what a student sees when they open a quiz. In every WebCT course you set up (including development courses), a guest account is automatically set up. The username for the guest is g_(yourusername), such as g_johnson. The password is the same as the username.

If the student has a pop-up blocker active on their computer, they may get an error message when they try to open a WebCT quiz (the quiz might not open). If they hold down the control key while pressing the “begin quiz” button, this will make the WebCT quiz open just fine.

At our next meeting (Oct. 14), be prepared to take us to your website where you have your development course. Spend 5 to 10 minutes showing us the features of your course so far and discussing what your plans are for the rest of the semester.  We will meet in AS192 for our next meeting (Oct. 14).
