Minutes for September 23, 2004 - 4 P.M. - 5:30 P.M. AS192

In attendance at the DLMG meeting :    Jennifer Townsley, Stacey Cochran , Amadou Gaye , Chuck Hall, Melanie Kroening , and Peggy Johnson ,

Peggy discussed the issue of having exams proctored by the MCC Testing Center . This will not be an option after this semester as they are overloaded and short staffed. Faculty on the Distance Ed Committee are examining the issue, but it is likely that faculty will have to make arrangements to have online students take any exams they give in the department. We should have more definitive information as the semester progresses.

Melanie conducted a workshop on WebCT Basics. Participants learned how to create a development course in WebCT, access their course in the portal, use the Designer Options view to make modifications to their course, create the course homepage (including add a banner, add text, add tools or pages).  They also learned how to upload their files by using the Manage Files option. They then linked their files to an icon on the course homepage.

Faculty who want individual help getting their course set up in WebCT may make appointments with CTL staff (Donna, Melanie, Peggy).  

Our next DLMG meeting will be in the CTL Workroom – not our usual meeting place (AS192). Melanie will show us how to use the new Breeze Presentation software. This enables faculty to easily create audio files to accompany their Powerpoint presentations. These files are compressed and delivered quickly through the Flash server.  If you want to include Powerpoint presentations in your online course, Breeze provides a quicker way to deliver them over the internet (even if you choose not to have audio files).
