CONTENT SECTION

Apply

Formal applications are required for use of the experimental classroom*. The proposal process begins at the start of fall classes each year and runs through the end of March. Approved participants will begin their classroom use the following academic year. Applicants are encouraged to apply early in theyearas proposals will be tentatively approved within two weeks of submission. However, adjustments may be made due to scheduling issues with other approved proposals as the final schedule is filled out.

Proposals

Proposals must include:

  • Summary project description focusing on the experimental and innovative aspects of the project.
  • Specific teaching and learning goals.
  • Description and rationale for the experimental approach.
  • Preferredclassroom, days, times and period of the experimental approach.
  • Evaluation plan.
  • Description of any desired modifications to room setup (including available technology).
  • Letter of support from department chair expressing a willingness to integrate the new approach into the department contingent upon positive evaluation results.

Criteria for Selection

The following criteria are used to approve experimental classroom proposals:

  • All requested items from the proposal list are completed.
  • The proposed project isjustified and requires a non-traditional and/or innovative teaching and learning environment.
  • The proposed project contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Adequate resources are available.
  • Appropriate and adequate spaceisavailable.

*To request occasional or short-term use, send an email to ctl@mcmail.maricopa.edu with the following information:

  • Provide a short summary of yourgoals and planned use of the experimental classroom.
  • Preferredclassroom, days, times and period of the experimental approach.
  • If your request is for a full semesteror more, pleaseuse the proposal guidelines above.

Note: Occasional use is scheduled on a space-available basis during the semester the space is needed.
