Project Summary: Adjunct Faculty Professional Development Adjunct faculty at Mesa Community College are an instrumental part of the teaching and learning that occurs in this institution and reaching out to this diverse population has the potential for significant positive impact on our students' classroom experience.

Project Goals

  • Establish and maintain regular communication with adjunct faculty at MCC by serving as a contact person for questions from Adjunct Faculty via email and in person
  • Promote district and campus-wide resources and opportunities for professional development via distribution of monthly Adjunct Faculty Newsletter
  • Organize and promote events that support adjunct faculty in their role on campus

Project Staff

  • The Adjunct Faculty Developer, Nicole Lohrbeer, coordinates these efforts.

Project Timeline

  • Project was initiated in Fall 2006 with a request from CTL Dirctor Brad Kincaid and Jonelle Moore, Faculty Development Coordinator.
  • A pilot project was approved by VPAA Jim Mancuso resulting in the hiring of a part-time Adjunct Faculty Developer, Nicole Lohrbeer.
  • More workshops to be offered in 2006-7.
  • Constant improvement of communication with adjunct faculty.

  • Monthly Newsletter distributed to DL list
  • Adjunct Faculty information area in CTL
  • Specialized workshops for adjunct faculty

Future Directions

  • Connect with department chairs
  • Create needs assessment
