CTL Survey 2005

Spring 2005 was the first delivery of the online CTL support survey. The intent of this survey was to gather data from our users concerning the service and support they receive from the CTL.

Survey Process

  • Created using Survey Share for online delivery (http://www.surveyshare.com )
  • Survey open from 4/18 – 4/29
  • First email sent to all MCC on 4/18 with following text:
    • Good afternoon! The MCC Center for Teaching and Learning requests your help gathering data about the support that we provide to MCC faculty and staff. Please take a few minutes and complete the CTL Support Survey (link included). The survey should take no more than 15 minutes of your time and will provide us with valuable information as we structure our offerings for next year. Thanks in advance for your help and continued support! CTL Staff
  • Second email reminder sent 4/21 with adjustment to completion time (5 minutes instead of 15). Email text also included top 5 reasons to complete the survey.
  • Third reminder sent on 4/26.
  • Survey closed on 4/29. Results were compiled and made available via a link from our website. Email with the following text was sent out on 5/3:
    • Some highlights from the 2005 CTL Support Survey:
      • 202 individuals responded to the survey
      • Most of these individuals (94%) find out about CTL events via email
      • 79% of these users primarily work on a PC computer
      • 31 of these users are willing to share expertise with their colleagues via showcase, mentoring, and/or workshop facilitation

For these and other survey results, visit the CTL website link to survey results.Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey. We will be using the data to help modify and continually improve our support services for the coming academic year. For those working on summer classes and projects, the CTL will be open and hold regular hours (M – TH from 7 am – 6 pm). Thanks for your support, and have a great summer! CTL Staff

Survey Process Recommendations

  • Timing seemed to be good (i.e. end of April with completion before May)
  • The survey was open about two weeks which seemed to work well
  • Be sure to indicate that it takes 5 minutes or less to complete. Fifteen minutes is WAYYY to long.

Survey Questions Recommendations

  • The number of questions seemed about right to keep within the 5 minute completion window.
  • Next time might want to add question about interest in using Study Mate to create online games, using WebCT for on-campus class resources, and copyright information.
  • The survey is definitely slanted toward technology questions. This was brought up by one of the respondents. Might want to balance the questions next time and add more related to teaching and learning.
