Technology Recommendations
- The wireless microphone that Elluminate has been using in their boardroom is from Sony. It has a range of 150 feet and includes: a Lavaliere Microphone, Transmitter, Receiver and Monitoring Earphone, Three Channels with a Selector Switch for low interference, and a Compact, Lightweight Design. It takes standard AA batteries, and plugs directly into the Audio in via a standard jack, so no special adapter required. They purchased it for just over $100.00 CDN, and it has been very reliable. www.sonystyle.com
- This wireless microphone includes a transmitter, handheld microphone or lavaliere microphone and costs $49. http://www.nadypro.com/pd_dkw1.cfm
- This is a room microphone called the Duet that Elluminate has been using in their meeting rooms, it costs approximately $150. http://www.phnxaudio.com/Products.htm
Note: If you are purchasing a headset, it is recommended that you get one with separate plugs for microphone and speaker as opposed to a USB which does both.
Getting Started Document
Here are some steps that will help you prepare for using Elluminate Live!
- Participate in live and recorded training sessions from Elluminate Live!
- You can access pre-recorded training sessions at: http://www.elluminate.com/support/docs/7.0/learn_about_elluminate.jsp
- Live training sessions via Elluminate are very valuable because you are able to ask questions and get the most out of the training. To register for live training, visit: http://sas.elluminate.com/site/external/event/schedule?etn=training&eef=1
- Participate in Maricopa training sessions and tutoring sessions.
- If you would like individual assistance or an opportunity to practice, please contact me at young@gatewaycc.edu to schedule a session.
- Practice using Elluminate Live in the sandbox.
- A sandbox has been created where you can go in and practice using Elluminate Live! The URL to moderate this site is: https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?sid=2258&miuid=7235730FC217A260B3386AE9EC05EB17
- To invite others to join the session, e-mail the following link: https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?sid=2258&password=M.AB4AF7065407A475E52578D182E662
- You may want to practice in a computer lab with a moderator and participant stations side by side so you can see both perspectives
- If you would like to send an email to see if any other pilot participants would like to practice in the sandbox with you, you can send it to dl-elluminatepilot@memo.maricopa.edu
- Determine how you would like to use Elluminate Live! in the spring 2007 semester.
- Evaluate the courses you will be teaching, with the delivery methods, students’ technological expertise and the possible academic applications of using Elluminate Live! to determine how you would like to use it. Remember, think small, we have a year to study the use of Elluminate Live!
- Submit your Elluminate Live! concept for use and dates and times for use.
- Email your concept to Lisa Young at young@gatewaycc.edu by December 22 on how you would like to use Elluminate Live!
- You will be receiving an email over the next few weeks with instructions on how to schedule your sessions.
Current Status
Working standalone and with WebCT powerlink, but only with SSL turned OFF. Further work being done to fix ssl.
Relation to CTL Department Plan Initiatives
Project Staff
- Martin Lehner administers the software and the server it runs on.
- Melanie Kroening helps test/install/administer the WebCT powerlink for Elluminate.
Project Timeline
- February 2007 - Powerlink installed and working great with SSL turned OFF. SSL turned on produces an SSLHandshakeException. Elluminate is looking into the error and will get back to us. Tried adding webct certificate into the elluminate jvm keystore but same error.
- January 2007 - Installed on "old apps" hardware and began testing. The system works fine running standalone. Will try webct powerlink soon.
- December 2006 - Acquired the software and technical contact: Craig McAdie. Waiting for hardware to become available to do the install.
Project Resources
- Server hardware (the rack mount poweredge 1850 apps used to be on)
- Server administration hours for Martin Lehner.
- Software administration hours for Martin Lehner.
- Install/Testing hours for Melanie Kroening.
