About FPG from the RFP
A.1.1. The Maricopa County Community College District has, through adoption of this document, recognized a procedure which permits instructors to advance on the salary schedule through longevity as well as various types of activities directly related to increase professional competency. The liberality of this policy and the absolute requirements of the utmost care and expenditure of public money demand complete adherence to the concepts of the policy and valid justification of all requests for salary advancement.
A.2.1. For a faculty member to be credited with horizontal increments, transcripts, grade slips, official notices showing satisfactory completion for academic coursework, and proof of attendance or other types of verification required for non-academic advancement activities must be on file in the District Human Resources Division by September 15 of the contract year.
A.3.1.4. Undergraduate Courses Not Within Subject Field. Undergraduate courses not within the subject field may be acceptable if approved. See the guidelines for details.
MCCCD 2007-8 RFP
ETL 287
ETL287 was designed to allow FPLC members to get 1 credit of FPG for each semester of membership in an FPLC. Because the closest experiences we have to our FPLCs are the graduate seminars that we all took, it is very fitting and proper that you get FPG credit for your FPLC experience.
It should be relatively straightforward to get you FPG credit using the ETL 287 course. You simply have to register and pay tuition for ETL 287 and then submit the required FPG paperwork as described below. You cannot use tuition a waiver and get FPG credit. However, if course credit is useful for you other than for FPG, then you could use a tuition waiver.
The course requirements should be very close to the expectations for any member of an FPLC.
Official ETL287 Course Description
- Attend 7 two hour FPLC meetings each semester in addition to a common event (approx. 16 hours of 'class' time).
- Participate fully in the readings, discussion, activities, etc. that are scheduled for your FPLC (Facilitators will document attendance and participation).
- Document your learning each semester in a CTLpedia article (either a synthesis of literature read, a report on a project, or something else appropriate to the topic).
FPG Guidelines
Salary Advancement for Academic Work quoted from the FPG Website.
Faculty may submit applications for a wide variety of academic experiences. They are encouraged to continue their education through official acceptance and pursuit of advanced studies at accredited educational institutions (ones listed in the Higher Education Directory published by Higher Education Publications, Inc). Credits may be earned on campus or via distance learning modalities.
When making an application for salary advancement for academic work, be sure that the course prefix, number and course title on your application matches your official transcript. Typical course prefix numbers and titles that have been identified as problematic for Human Resources are those courses that may change or be repeated, such as Special Projects, Research and Development (eg. ASU’s RDG 799).
If this occurs, you must resubmit your salary advancement application to your advancement FPG representative with course prefix, number and course title matching your transcript, for approval by FPG.
Application Process
Getting Salary Advancement for Academic Work: FPG credit for 100-200 level courses quoted from the FPG website.
- Complete the application for academic advancement (see myFPG for forms). It is recommended that applicants obtain pre-approval before taking any 100/200 level courses. Describe how this enhances your professional growth. Your description assists your peer review committee in understanding how this makes you a better professional in your field and/or more effective teacher in your work. Complete the application, one application per course, print out the completed application, and sign. No more than sixteen (16) credit hours of 100/200 level courses will be awarded toward salary advancement over the course of your Maricopa career. Advancement credit will not be approved for 100/200 level coursework taken in one's own department. Courses or workshops that focus on standard office applications are ineligible for advancement. Non-standard technology applications, computer science, health care, and others will be approved or disapproved based on the rationale given and how these courses relate to and update the faculty member's RFP position. You must include a course description, proof of course payment, and an explanation as to how the course enhances your professional growth. The explanation should also include the reason why you are pursuing the content through a 100/200 level course rather than a 300/400 or graduate level course.
- Contact your FPG advancement representative to review your application. If all is complete and clear your representative can sign for approval.
- After your representative has approved and signed, forward the application plus 10 copies (11 total) to the District FPG staff support. This can be sent directly by yourself or by your representative. Keep a copy for your records.
- The District FPG staff support verifies the institutional accreditation and places the application on the agenda for the FPG committee review.
- The application is then either approved or disapproved. You will be notified by e-mail by FPG District staff support. If approved, notification is sent to Supervisor of Wage and Salary. If disapproved, the applicant will be notified, but may elect to pursue the appeals process.
