My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy evolves around the student. I think of myself as just one source of information (out of many) available to the student; my style is more like a facilitator, and I try to provide context for the student.
• Impart enthusiasm about the subject. Usually students will show some excitement and/or curiosity regarding a subject; your own enthusiasm will reinforce their energy, or at least capture some imagination.
• Each student is an individual. Learning styles, levels of curiosity, and other factors all help to initially shape a students performance. I try to help students find an approach which will work best for them.
• Let students know what my previous and current challenges are. As a designer, I always try to relate prior work experiences I've encountered to the class, in order to demonstrate scenarios or challenges students may also face. As an instructor, I try to tell students about specific challenges I face, and to let them know that they can look forward to the same.
• Provide the right balance of examples. I try to bring examples of work to class (my own or others). I like to show students real-world scenarios that they will encounter. I try to be careful, and to create a balance for the student; somewhere between curiosity and intimidation.
• Students know more about their own needs and challenges than you do. Just as I was able to forge my own path for learning and growth, I try to allow students to choose their own learning path whenever possible.

Impact of NFE on my Approach to Teaching
The NFE has provided me with a portal; an opening into the ways of teaching that until now I only mused over on occasion. I wish I can offer a complete reflection on my journey thru this portal, but my experience has only begun. There’s a lot of information I still have to gather and consider. This doesn’t mean that I feel overwhelmed; only that I’m trying to leverage and combine my past experience with the wonderful ideas and energy I gained from my new-found gateway.
