Project Summary:

Starting 4/1/2008 and ending on 8/30/2008 the Center for Teaching & Learning piloted online training for Office 2007 through InfoSource as part of a joint pilot with the district office technology training department and Scottsdale Community College.
There are several reasons we decided to join this pilot:
  • The CTL does not have a staff developer position or staff member to support and deliver training in Microsoft Office 2007. We coordinate with Business faculty each semester to offer some training. It does not always meet the scheduling needs of our various faculty / staff as often staff look for training between semesters and adjunct faculty look for training in the evenings and on weekends and faculty and staff at multiple locations are not always served.
  • One of our goals in the CTL is to develop a variety of professional development activities in a variety of formats, we have developed small online training modules but it is time consuming to develop online training so with limited staff this was a quick and easy way to assess the effectiveness and demand for online training.
  • Office 2007 rolled out in 2007/2008 and we had a higher than usual demand for Office training.
  • The pricing offered by joining with the district office and Scottsdale was much lower and much more affordable than other companies we have looked at. We briefly looked at other training solutions but went forward without much comparison due to the much lower cost of this training and as it was in combination with other groups. The goal of this project was primarily to assess the usefulness of online training and the secondary goal was to assess this specific company’s offering.
